Origin[]
This first originated, when Eminem released the song 'Stan' on his 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LP. The song tells the story of fan Stan who is obsessed with Eminem and has pictures all over his walls and listens to his music all the time. Stan is shown to be so obsessed that in the end, because of Eminem not replying to his letters, he kills himself and his pregnant wife by driving their car over the edge of a bridge, with his pregnant girlfriend still alive in the trunk.
Use In Modern Society[]
Although it may be seen to be a bad thing, many people are self confessed, 'Stans' who admit that they are obsessed with Eminem, but may not go to the extents that Stan in the music video did.
